FAQs

How long does the therapeutic process take?

I implement individualized psychotherapy methods to instill self-understanding among clients and to encourage the adoption of new attitudes and feelings towards life situations. Psychotherapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix, but rather it is a healing process that requires consistent participation and investment from both the client and therapist. As there are many factors that impact the success of treatment, the length and frequency of sessions will vary for each client.

With that being said, there is evidence supporting benefits for both short-term and long-term based interventions, depending on the presenting concerns and treatment goals.  Some individuals may actually benefit from one to three sessions, if their goal is to learn effective coping strategies or to simply have the opportunity to verbalize their feelings, to be heard and validated. It is important to have an open and ongoing dialogue with me to discuss your treatment goals and progression, as well as any concerns that you may have.

What can I expect during my sessions?

During your initial appointment, which is approximately 90 minutes long, you can expect to be asked many questions pertaining to social and family history, your current situation, past mental health experiences and treatment goals. Most therapy sessions will last between 50-75 minutes. The specifics of treatment recommendations and processes (your treatment plan) will be discussed following the initial appointment. All treatment strategies employed as part of your treatment plan is evidenced-based and has solid research and outcomes supporting it.

Your scheduled appointment is "your time." I’ll ask for your feedback and make sure we’re on the same page. I will  challenge you and your thinking, while supporting the changes and goals you create for yourself. I will be your advocate and greatest supporter as you heal.

Do you offer sliding scale rates?

Although extremely rare, for individuals experiencing financial needs, I do provide a sliding fee.  Please inquire about taking advantage of this during our initial consultation if this is a concern for you. I do not want the cost of therapy to prevent you from having access to services with a provider of your choice.

What is a Superbill and how do I use it?

A Superbill is a specialized invoice, which includes the procedure coding, diagnosis coding and session dates that your insurance carrier will need in order to reimburse you. Your insurance company will need this to review your claim and make a decision about reimbursement.

If you wish to use your Out of Network health insurance benefits, please call your company prior to beginning therapy to ask:

  • What are my out-of-network mental health benefits?

  • Do I need to have a mental health disorder diagnosis to use these benefits?

  • Do I need to meet a deductible?

  • How do I submit a claim for reimbursement?

  • What is my co-pay?
